Painting Showjumps, how exciting.....not!
Well, I finally splashed out and purchased an entire showjumping course to use at home. We got the jumps from Kiaglen in NSW. They are metal showjumps with 2 sets of cups. They have a metal finish but I am having them spray painted in sets of blue, red, yellow and green.
I purchased 40 pine poles that have been treated. I have started with a allinone white primer and basecoat and then followed up with a second coat. It was going really well until I put the painters masking tape and started my coloured strips. I was so excited to open the blue and red paint and start painting, only to discover that the paint bled into the white. I was shattered!!! I asked a few people that had done it and no one seemed to have the problem...except me. I traded in my painters tape for the more expensive blue tape and it seems to have reduced the bleeding. I still have problems where there are tiny cracks underneath the tape but I don't mind touching that up. Anyway, 10 down and 30 to go. Now that the tape is working better, I am planning to get more creative. I looked at a few websites in the UK that produce the poles professionally and they have got to have a good spray painting unit and lots of time. Anyway that's what I've been doing in my spare time.
